Opel launches the Zafira electric

It is the twin brother of the already introduced Peugeot e-Traveler and Citroën ë-SpaceTourer.

At the end of 2019, the PSA Group announced a strong electrification offensive for its range of commercial vehicles, and over the months the 100% electric versions of the Citroën Jumpy, Peugeot Expert and Opel Vivaro cargo vans appeared, and then Citroën SpaceTourer and Peugeot Traveler passenger variants. The last one missing was the Opel Zafira in electric version and it has just been presented.

The name Opel Zafira-e Life, the German born model is twinned with Peugeot and Citroen vans in all platform EMP-2, three body sizes (4.60, 4.95 and 5.30 meters), height of 1.90 meters, versions for private use or for the professional transport of people, options for between 5 and 9 passengers and the electric powertrain.

In this case it is a 100 kW motor with 260 Nm of torque, powered by two battery options placed under the floor of the load compartment: 50 and 75 kWh. The small one has 18 modules offering a range of 230 kilometers, while the large one has 27 modules and raises the range to 320 kilometers on a single charge, all under WLTP measurement.

When it comes to charging times, on a 100 kW DC plug, the small battery only needs about 30 minutes to get 80% of its charge, while the 75 kWh battery will need three quarters of hour. With household plug the charge rises between 7 and 9 hours.

The new Zafira-e Life will be offered with a wide range of equipment options, including electrically operated side doors and numerous driver assistance systems. For example, semi-adaptive cruise control with emergency brake, lane keeping assist, high / low beam assist, front and rear 180 degree camera sensors.

Of course, it includes a multimedia and navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and optionally, a powerful sound system with 10 speakers. And depending on the version, you may have leather seats with electric adjustment, massage function and heating.

The Opel Zafira-e Life goes on sale in Europe towards the end of 2020.
