To rectify the issue, Ford is offering owners two solutions, both of which are free of charge. Owners can choose to download an over-the-air (OTA) software update themselves or visit a Ford dealership to have the update installed. OTA updates have become increasingly common in modern vehicles with built-in wireless connectivity. Other automakers such as Tesla, GM, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis have also utilized OTA updates to address product recalls.
