Fiat Chrysler recalls over 900,000 cars in USA

The carmaker has to recall almost a million vehicles. Parts of the airbag covers can cause injuries. So far 14 cases are known.

The Italian-American car company Fiat Chrysler has to recall numerous cars in the USA because of a possible airbag defect. The company warned on Friday that around 925,239 older models in which parts of the airbag covers above the steering wheel could come loose and shoot out like projectiles when the air cushions were activated.

Fiat Chrysler has 14 known injuries related to the problem, it said.

The defect is reminiscent of the airbag scandal by the insolvent Japanese manufacturer Takata. However, Fiat Chrysler emphasized that the parts are not from its production.
