So, i pulled my truck in the shop to check on some transmission stuff and got it all taken care of and now i'm not getting any fuel pump operation. I tried jumping the relay and i can get the pump to kick on. Tried a new relay ( cause i just so happened to have one laying around) and still no go. What do?

Pull the cover off the old relay  (they come apart really easily)

By the way... 92's have 2 relays on the firewall..

The fuel pump relay will have an ORANGE wire, a black ground wire, a Grey wire to the pump and a Dark Green with a white stripe wire from the computer. DO NOT probe the Dark green and white stripe wire.

Examine the contacts in the fuel pump relay. Plug the bare relay back in, squeeze the contacts closed in the relay. You should hear the pump go on. You should hear fuel surging thru the fuel lines on the throttle body.

If you don't - do you have power on the Orange wire into the fuel pump relay. There is a fuse next to it on the power distribution studs..

if you have power but no fuel pump action, have somebody start pounding hard on the bottom of the fuel tank center while you squeeze the relay. Did the pump start? This indicates a failing pump.

The fuel pump in the left hand tank is grounded to the top of the frame rail, in front of the left rear tire, you can actually see it, those get corroded.

Please don't use anything sharp to pound on the fuel tank bottom, a rubber hammer, a boot bottom, pounding knocks the brushes back in place and will get the fuel pump running almost every time.

But the fuel pump that is doing that needs changing.

Please.. that is a TBI fuel pump.. it makes about 28 Pounds pressure with the the fuel line dead headed... The running pressure is only 13 psi..

Some people have put in Vortec fuel pumps thinking more is better. this usually results in a blown fuel pressure regulator in the throttle body..

Your answer is thorough and informed, and I appreciate it. I didn’t have power to the orange wire to the relay. I tested resistance across the fuses with my meter cause I couldn’t find my test light. Turns out it’s not really a reliable test because the ecm fuse ended up being blown.

So I’m just a dum dum that couldn’t correctly check the easy stuff first. But I do appreciate the answer
