I have a 2019 Toyota Tundra with 5.7 V8. When I plug-in my trailer that has electric brakes, the MID does not reflect I have a trailer connected. As a result I cannot select a trailer type. I can adjust the gain but if I use the manual brake output control I get a message on the MID that the trailer is not connect. I also receive a message on the MID that there is no trailer connected.  Is this issue with my truck’s system or a trailer system. I will get notifications intermittently that the trailer is not connected and at times it appears the trailer is connected.

There is a TSB for 2018 and 2019 Toyota Tundra vehicles.

Some 2018 – 2019 model year Tundra vehicles equipped with integrated trailer brake controllers  may exhibit an intermittent “Trailer Disconnected” message in the combination meter while towing  a trailer.

To resolve the issue you may have to reprogram the trailer brake controller ECU.
