My mother drives a 116i, first registration 16/06/2006 with 82,000 km on the clock. Yesterday the car was in the workshop to change tires. The workshop noticed that the car sounds different. (Sounds like a diesel, according to the statement.) I couldn't listen to myself live. Now it is said that the timing chain cover is torn.

The cover is made of plastic and metal. According to the workshop, in the worst case, the plastic can get into the oil pan and cause engine damage. Repair costs approx. 1800-2000 euros. The new cover will be exactly the same. So can tear down again.

Question:

Has anyone had this problem here?

Are the costs ok? Or would you prefer to go to other workshops?

1800-2000 € are unfortunately already violent.

How would you go about it?

The timing chain and the cover are the main reasons why the N45 engine (if installed) gets off so badly everywhere ..

Unfortunately, this is the fear of all 1 owners that this problem will come up one day ..
