2006 Ford Ranger Sport 3.0L - More than a year ago the bright lights switch (embedded in turn signal lever) stared working intermittently (more frequently not working than working).  When the bright lights switch is engaged all the headlights go off.  Recently several functions/switches in the steering wheel/column have stopped working - cruise and horn (wheel) and bright lights and wipers (column).  As mentioned before, the bright lights are intermittent and while the wipers do function they are s-l-o-w.  I thought since the steering wheel switches are completely non-functional (horn and cruise) but the steering column functions are either intermittent or s-l-o-w, there is some type of wiring cut/crimp.  Any ideas??

Most probably a bad clockspring (a flat multicore cable wound in a spiral shape).

Watch this video to see how to replace clockspring in Ford Ranger:

The steering column stalk switch may also be failing. You may have to replace both of them.

In any case, you will have to open the steering wheel and inspect the wiring for any damage.

Excellent!  Thank you; I'm a shade-tree mechanic at best, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to pay big money for repairs on a 17 year old truck.
