How could  enough water get anywhere near the air intake to inundate the air filter and pass through to the manifold by driving over typical rain related puddles?
Car smoked (white) from engine and tailpipe. Car stopped dead. Wouldn’t restart.

DO NOT attempt to start the car again. Your engine is probably hydrolocked. Water does not compress in the combustion chambers and it will cause very expensive damage to the engine. The engine must be inspected and cleaned before you can start the engine again.

As for why would the water pass through the air filter. It can happen if you drive through the puddles at high speed.

Car was NOT driven thru puddle of water. Rain was light day of engine failure. Smoke from engine. Oil. And Blowback. Any other cause(s) for this? Car has 34k miles.
