Toyota to resume production at some factories in Europe

At the French location in Valenciennes, home of the Yaris small car, production will resume to a limited extent from April 22 after being interrupted by the corona crisis on March 17. Production at the Polish locations in Jelcz-Laskowice and Walbrzych, where the engines and gearboxes for the Yaris are manufactured, starts on April 23.

According to the statement: “The resumption of production takes place gradually and with care: Compared to normal operation, a significantly lower volume is initially produced. The highest priority continues to be the safety and health of employees and everyone involved. In the first two weeks, the Valenciennes plant works in one-shift operation instead of the usual three-shift operation.”

“The decision to resume some of the activities at some European Toyota locations is made taking into account and following national guidelines and recommendations. Numerous measures are implemented to ensure the safety and health of employees. These include, for example, protective equipment for employees, keeping a safe distance and avoiding large crowds.”

“The resumption of our Yaris production in Europe is an important sign for employees, customers and all of us and allows us to look to the future with optimism,” says Alain Uyttenhoven, President of Toyota Deutschland GmbH.

Starting next Monday, April 20, the Toyota car dealerships in Germany will again be opening their showrooms to customers. In compliance with the hygiene regulations and regional requirements, the sales staff are back for the customers. The decision of the federal and state governments yesterday on Wednesday (April 15) to relax the corona restrictions cleared the way for this. The workshop and service business was always ensured even when the showrooms were closed.

“We have always kept our customers mobile in the past few weeks; the workshops were there for the customers. We are now looking forward to welcoming our customers in Germany back to our showrooms with our usual range of products and advice from next Monday,” says Mario Köhler, Sales Director at Toyota Germany.
