How to use Pedal Shifters on Toyota Avalon

Paddle shifters are located on the back side of the steering wheel on Toyota Avalon for easy access while driving.

Paddle shifters can be used to select shift ranges, gears one to six when the shift lever is in D for drive or S for sequential transmission operation. This allows the driver to choose the gear or shift point.

  1. While driving in D, selecting either paddle shifter will change the transmission into sequential operation.
  2. Depending on the vehicle speed the shift indicator will show either as four or as five. The driver then has the choice to up shift or down shift using the shift lever or the paddle shifters.
  3. Selecting plus will up shift and selecting minus will down shift.
  4. In some circumstances down shifting may not be possible, even when the shift lever or paddle shifters are operating. A buzzer will sound twice as a warning.
