It’s time for what makes men's heart beat faster: buying a new car.

Actually, I'm a Mercedes driver - currently an approximately 5-year-old E-Class Estate. I'm super happy with it, so slowly it should be pushed away due to the mileage. Since the children have outgrown the stroller age, I am no longer dependent on the "largest trunk in its class" (E-Class Estate).

And why not drive a BMW?

In short: The shortlist is the successor to my 170 PS E220 Diesel, the 220xd Gran Tourer. The model that I have in mind is about 1.5 years old and has almost full equipment. The only thing missing is the "dynamic chassis" (or alternatively the M chassis) and only the basic sound system with the "large navigation system" (neither "HiFi" nor "Harman Kardon") is installed.

- What is the basic sound system like? I like to listen to my favorite rock songs at a slightly higher volume and I am very satisfied with the basic sound system of the E-Class. Is that good in the 2? (For MB, the sound system in A / B class, which may be comparable, is also sufficient for me)

- At MB you can already see a big difference between E> C> A / B class. The smaller ones drive "lighter" (less mass), outside noises / engine noises become increasingly louder. How is it at BMW?

- Or maybe I will only be happy with a 5 Series Touring?

My E-Kombi has been bought, I would lease the BMW used, because BMW has very, very good (both the 2 and 5 series) offers. So nothing with retrofitting sound. The BMW dealer is also a few hundred kilometers away, so I am not going to the next best one and I will test the vehicles there (where I will not take them anyway).

Generally I have no enormous demands on the car. It should be a mixture of reason, fun and everyday suitability in the family. I came across the 2 AT by chance, because the price is very attractive, 7 seats (nice to have, not a must), the van construction is practical.

Alternatives:

- VW Touran, Tiguan Allspace> I don't like VW

- MB GLB> unattractive in price

- 520d Touring> I would also like

- Audi A6> could also be an option

- MB E220d new model> unattractive in price

- Volvo V90 / V90CC> in price the same league as 2/5 series, interior somewhat unsightly

Maybe someone made the switch from Mercedes and has some experience?

I was able to drive X1 for a few days (I think it was X1 18i), but I was pleasantly surprised.

Oh yes, my driving profile: 10 tkm per year, only leisure / shopping / vacation trips, very rarely> 300km in one go. The car is in the garage most of the week and bored.

Your question about the expected sound of a sound system or no sound system is very difficult to answer. Actually, only everyone can solve it personally. We drive a mini without a hifi system. I find sound relatively thin. But after a long distance you get used to it and find it okay. In our 2-series Gran Tourer we have the hi-fi system it is good, but not comparable to the hi-fi system of our predecessor an X3. But here too you get used to it.

In the meantime, I am even wondering whether you really need an auxiliary system.

I drive a car, while music is playing. Is the sound experience really there?

From S204 to F46 it felt like a small climb. Or maybe just because the latter is significantly newer and everything works better somehow. But I also prefer to drive it like the S213.

Incidentally, the AT / F45 does not have 7 seats, only the GT / F46.

The fact is, the 2-series GT 2.0d xdrive is a great car. I got down from an X3 to a 2 GT. The noise level is significantly lower. The 2 Series GranTourer is probably the most practical BMW ever. The materials used are also comparable to an X3.

If you can live with buying a discontinued model, do it.

BMW is making the biggest mistake of not wanting to continue this model and to put everything on SUVs. The X1 is absolutely no alternative in terms of space, also has front-wheel drive, nothing can be better but more expensive. And I doubt whether an X1 really emits an image.
