Hi guys got a 70s Ford F-100 with a Perkins diesel, I bought this years ago and I had it towed straight to my property. So when I bought it the old fella showed me how to turn it off once and I’ve forgotten over the years. My question is how does a Diesel engine shut down? Thanks guys

It’s gotta have a fuel shutoff near or on the pump.

If you are particularly worried about runaways get a strong piece of material you can slap over the air intake to starve it of air. Or find a method to lift all the valves at once so it eliminates cylinder compression. If you can fit the latter permanently it means you can always save it if that does happen.

Normal shut off is caused due to fuel interruption I believe.

Thanks, will have a look into the pump wiring

There probably won’t be any wiring, you will likely be looking for a manual control on or near the pump that shuts off fuel flow
