In the 2013 5.0, were Platinum or Iridium spark plugs stock? I just had mine done today at 80,000 miles and the shop owner called me saying he pulled Iridiums out. His book shows Platinum are supposed to be in there and that's what went back in. He said the Iridiums looked good, engine is burning great, but gap was huge. I bought the truck as a certified used with 27,000 miles on it. Maybe the dealership did a tune-up prior to selling it? Thoughts?

You likely won't notice much of a difference. Iridium's is the way to go they have the long life of the platinum, they have the low resistance similar to but not as good as copper way better than platinum. They sound expensive and cool to say so the stealership can take more money you can sound cool and everyone wins then. If I do mine again it will be copper and stretched to the limit on gap. I don't mind changing more often for a slight (probably not noticeable) performance gain.

Iridium were stock. Ford discontinued those and now the replacement is platinums. I changed my truck to them and no noticeable difference. Just less longevity.

Ford puts iridium at factory, to you past the 60K mark. You can't gap an iridium, so for replacements, its easier to go platinum. Truck could care less what you have.

The correct spark plugs for your 5.0 is going to be platinum,  2013-2014 platforms only ford changed the from iridiums to platinum for 2 reasons better fuel performance second they found that irdiums was the cause of the knocking valve sound the one you get when you go from high performance gas back to the rated E87.
Just remember to gap them from 51-55 for standard setup, but if you changed your ford air filter to a high flow low resistance  performance filter,  or you have super charger added or turbo YOUR GAP is going to be 45, and the one thing to remember if your truck is a 2013-2014 with the 5.0 coyote engine the spark plugs have been changed to the Platinum with a gap of 45 any vehicles with the 2015 and up will be iridium with a 55-60 gap

Make up your mind on gap 2013 platinum plugs. Either 45 or 51 with stock 5.0
