How to fix vent control 2002 Nissan Sentra

My vent current just blows through my feet vents and the vent blowing directly towards you. I cannot change these at all and I cannot activate my defrost. It has been like this since I bought the car and I finally want to fix it. Any advice?

Bad mode control actuator is my first guess.

When you switch modes do you hear a little clickety clickety sound behind the dash?

Nissans have a self-diag function for the heater/AC controls. I would run this first.
