Vitesco supplies the drive control unit for the ID series from VW and its group brands. Such jobs are particularly important right now.
Vitesco Technologies, the drive unit from Continental, becomes the sole supplier of the drive control unit for Volkswagen’s MEB platform. All future electric vehicles in VW’s ID series will be based on this. The Group brands Seat and Skoda also use the MEB platform for their electric cars.
Vitesco is already equipping VW’s ID.3 with this control unit, which takes on central functions in the electric drive train. For example, it activates the electric machine, coordinates all drive commands triggered by the pedals and is responsible for the high-voltage coordination of the system.
The supplier also confidently states that the company “also has software and integration expertise at the highest level”. They have developed their own software components and also integrated software components provided by Volkswagen. “We are part of Volkswagen’s electrification initiative,” says Wolfgang Breuer, Head of the Electronic Controls Business Unit, Vitesco Technologies. “Proof of our strong system and electronics competence across the entire vehicle drive and beyond.”
As an electric vehicle at Volkswagen, the battery-powered ID.3 is to play a role similar to that of the Golf and Beetle among cars with internal combustion engines. Due to delays in development, the ID.3 will only be available on the market at the beginning of September. The Hanoverian supplier Continental wants to bring its Regensburg drive division Vitesco to the stock exchange separately. After the corona crisis thwarted the plan, Continental now wants to take this step in the coming year.
