VW recalls ID.3 vehicles over passenger airbag issue

Volkswagen (VW) has recently issued a recall campaign with the manufacturer code 69EX for its ID.3 vehicles due to a potential safety concern related to the passenger airbag. The recall affects a total of 47 vehicles worldwide, with 22 of them presumably being affected in Germany.

The recall campaign, under close supervision by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), was initiated after the discovery that in the event of an accident, the passenger airbag might unfold in an undefined manner if it has been incorrectly screwed on. This unforeseen deployment of the airbag could pose a risk of injury to the vehicle occupants.

While the specific restrictions or limitations on the affected vehicle versions are not yet known, VW has taken prompt action to rectify the issue. The corrective action involves a thorough inspection of the airbag installation to ensure proper attachment. If it is found that the airbag has been improperly screwed on or the necessary screws are missing, the manufacturer will promptly install the airbag using the correct screws provided.

As of the release date of the recall campaign on 03/10/2023, no incidents of property damage or personal injury have been reported in connection with this issue. However, VW is taking proactive measures to address the potential safety risk and prioritize the well-being of its customers.

Owners of the affected ID.3 vehicles are urged to contact VW’s helpline at 08008655792436 to schedule an appointment with an authorized service center. During the appointment, the vehicle will undergo a thorough inspection to determine if the airbag installation is in compliance with the necessary standards. If required, the airbag will be reattached using the appropriate screws to ensure the safety of the occupants.

VW advises owners to respond promptly to the recall notification and not to ignore the issue, as the passenger airbag problem could potentially lead to injuries in the event of an accident. The company is committed to addressing this matter efficiently and providing the necessary support to its customers.

Customers can stay informed about the latest updates regarding the recall campaign by visiting VW’s official website or contacting their local VW dealership. Additionally, the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) will closely monitor the progress of the recall to ensure compliance with safety standards and the timely resolution of the issue.

VW remains dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of safety and customer satisfaction, and they apologize for any inconvenience caused by this recall campaign. By promptly addressing the potential risk associated with the passenger airbag, VW aims to uphold its commitment to providing reliable and safe vehicles to its valued customers.
