Volkswagen ID.4: Pictures of the production version leaked

The first electric SUV is presented to the public! However, without Volkswagen’s blessing. The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has published the pictures of the VW ID.4. Background: Vehicle manufacturers have to provide the MIIT with photos of the series version of new vehicles in advance, which are then published on its website. The pictures show that there will be two versions of the ID.4 at least in China!

Not surprisingly, the design of the ID.4 is based on compact ID.3. At the rear, the continuous light strip is reminiscent of the VW T-Cross, the roof is obviously available in different contrast colors.

VW ID.4 X and VW ID.4 Crozz

Judging from the photos, there will be two versions of the SUV in China: an ID.4 X (gray on the photo) and an ID.4 Crozz (white) actually written with a double-Z. According to the Chinese car portal “Auto Sina”, the wheelbase and track width are the same at 2765 mm and 1852 mm, respectively. However, the body dimensions differ slightly from one another: the tougher-looking “X” measures 4612 mm in length and 1640 mm in width. The “Crozz”, which is trimmed to lifestyle, is about 1.5 cm less, which may be due to chassis differences and other aprons. There are no further details about the models. The Crozz has slightly more aggressive front bumper.

Up to 500 kilometers range

The ID.4 is built in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture and is based on the MEB electrical platform. At the market launch, the 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor known from the ID.3 will drive the rear axle. Other variants and all-wheel drive are likely to follow. The top model could be called “GTX”. In the future, this abbreviation will probably adorn the sporty offshoots of VW’s electric models , similar to the GTI and GTD labels for combustion engines. Different battery capacities with a range of up to 500 kilometers are likely to be offered. The market launch in China will probably take place at the end of 2020, in Germany it could take until 2021. It remains to be seen whether the X.4 and Crozz versions of the ID.4 will also be available in Europe.
