Volkswagen extends production break

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN) and the Volkswagen Group component extend the interruption in production in the German plants by a further five working days, primarily due to the continuing decline in demand for vehicles and the ongoing challenges in the supply chain.

For a total of around 80,000 Volkswagen AG employees, the resulting short-time work should end with the night shift from April 19 to 20. The plants in Dresden, Emden, Osnabrück, Wolfsburg, Zwickau and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hanover as well as the plants of the Volkswagen Group components in Braunschweig, Kassel, Salzgitter, Chemnitz, Hanover Component and the German plants of SITECH are affected. At the same time, the company is preparing intensively for the resumption of production,

Andreas Tostmann, Board Member for Logistics and Production at the Volkswagen brand, emphasized: “The health of our employees is our top priority. We are making good progress with the work on a very extensive package for a gradual ramp-up of production, which also includes a variety of additional measures regarding hygiene or intervals between employees on the production line.”
