Using auto dimming rear view mirror in Toyota Fortuner

Driving can be a stressful experience, especially when you’re on the road for extended periods. Fortunately, advancements in automotive technology have made driving safer and more comfortable than ever before. One such innovation is the auto-dimming rearview mirror, which has become a standard feature in many modern vehicles, including the Toyota Fortuner. In this article, we will explore the benefits of using an auto-dimming rearview mirror in your Toyota Fortuner and how it can enhance your driving experience.

How auto dimming mirror works

An auto-dimming rearview mirror uses electrochromism technology to automatically adjust the mirror’s tint level, reducing glare from headlights and other light sources behind the vehicle. The mirror is made up of two layers of glass with a gel-like substance in between, and a small electronic circuit.

When light hits the mirror, the gel-like substance reacts and changes its opacity, which in turn changes the amount of light that passes through the mirror. This process is controlled by the electronic circuit, which measures the amount of light hitting the mirror and adjusts the tint level accordingly.

The mirror can switch between two modes: a clear mode and a dim mode. In clear mode, the mirror reflects light normally, providing a clear view of the rearview. In dim mode, the mirror darkens, reducing the amount of light reflected and minimizing the glare from headlights or other light sources behind the vehicle.

The auto-dimming rearview mirror technology also includes a sensor that detects ambient light levels, ensuring that the mirror automatically adjusts to changing light conditions. This ensures that the mirror is always optimized for the current driving situation, providing the driver with the best possible view of the rear.

How to turn on auto dimming mirror

In the Toyota Fortuner, the automatic anti-glare function for the rearview mirror is activated by default each time the engine switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode. When the function is activated, the indicator light on the mirror will illuminate green to indicate that it is active.

How to turn off auto dimming mirror

If you wish to turn off the auto-dimming function, you can do so by pressing the AUTO button located on the bottom of the mirror. This will turn off the function and the indicator light will turn off as well.

However, it is recommended to keep the function turned on to ensure a clear and safe view while driving.

Do not touch the sensors

In order for the auto-dimming rearview mirror to function properly in the Toyota Fortuner, it is important to avoid touching or covering the sensors that are located on the mirror. These sensors detect the amount of light hitting the mirror and help to adjust the tint level to reduce glare.

If the sensors are touched or covered, it may result in incorrect readings and cause the auto-dimming function to not work properly. This could lead to increased glare and reduced visibility while driving, which could be dangerous.

To avoid sensor errors, it is important to handle the mirror with care and avoid touching or covering the sensors. If the mirror becomes dirty, it is recommended to clean it with a soft cloth and mild detergent, taking care to avoid the sensors.
