Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) renamed to TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Europe GmbH (TGR-E)

TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has a name in line with all Toyota activities in competition, which are grouped under the umbrella of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing.

Everything learned in competition by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is transferred to the Toyota range in GR production models, such as GR Supra or GR Yaris.

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has been formally renamed TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Europe GmbH (TGR-E) and will continue to operate from its headquarters in Cologne, Germany.

TMG was initially established as Andersson Motorsport GmbH in Cologne in 1979, to be renamed TMG in 1993, when it became wholly owned by Toyota.

In addition to Toyota’s participation in motorsports activities , which it has been carrying out since its inception, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has applied its track experience over the years in recent years to the development of GR production models, like GR Supra or GR Yaris . The change in name, to TGR-E, reflects its even closer relationship with GAZOO Racing Company (GRC), the parent company located in Japan.

Going forward, TGR-E will continue to serve as a hub for Toyota’s competition activities in Europe, working together with GRC from its base in Cologne, Germany in areas including supplying engines for prototypes participating in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the World Rally Championship (WRC), in addition to helping in the development of the GR Supra GT4 .

TGR-E will also use the knowledge and experience that it has accumulated through its competitive activities over the years in the development of production cars, thus contributing to Toyota’s objective of using its presence in the different championships to manufacture cars getting better.

Akio Toyoda, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), commented on the name change:

“The absolute mission of participating in motorsports activities , which is a battle between manufacturers, is to win. That is why TGR-E must be a team of professionals who produce winning products. To continue winning, we have to do kaizen (continuous improvement) and do things better and better, regardless of the circumstances. Thus, our team will continue to make ever better cars here in Cologne with the sole objective of winning. ”
