Toyota reveals 86 GT Black Limited Edition, only 86 cars will be made

On March 12, 2020, Toyota announced that it will release a special edition model “GT BLACK LIMITED” for 86 sports coupe with a limited number of 86 units, and that the applications will be accepted online until April 16th.

Toyota 86, which is reminiscent of the AE86 special edition, is a sports coupe jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru. Subaru version is BRZ. It was announced in February 2012 (released in April), and rumors of a full model change are in full swing.

This special edition is based on GT grade and has crystal black silica body color. Using bronze color as an accent, the model is reminiscent of the special model “GT APEX Black Limited (released in January 1986 with a limited number of 400 units)”, the last special model of the AE86 Sprinter Trueno.

In the exterior, 17-inch special aluminum wheels with bronze paint are specially equipped. It also uses Brembo 17-inch ventilated disc brakes and SACHS shock absorbers. Equipped with black-painted rear spoiler and floor undercover (under the floor and under the tank), it further enhances the racing tone.

The interior is unified in black, and the instrument panel in front of the passenger seat is embroidered in bronze color with the exclusive logo “BLACK LIMITED”. In addition, the combination seats of genuine leather and Alcantara are adopted, and the front seats are equipped with seat heaters. The use of suede-like Granlux in instrument panel ornaments and meter visors creates a special and high-quality atmosphere.

There is no change to the powertrain, such as a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine that generates 207ps / 212Nm (AT is 200ps / 205Nm). The vehicle price (including tax) is $33,930 for a 6-speed MT car and $34,579 for a 6-speed AT (sport direct shift) version.

Limited to a total of 86 MT / AT units, 43 units each. Applications will be accepted on the dedicated website for about one month from 13:30 on March 12, 2020 (Thursday) to April 16, 2020. If there are a large number of potential buyers, the lottery will be launched on May 21 (Thursday) through Toyota dealers.

This limited edition seems to have commercialized the “86 Black Limited Concept”, which was exhibited at Tokyo Auto Salon 2020 as a reference. Just as the AE86 Black Limited was the final special edition car, will the current 86 also be the GT Special Limited Edition (that is, a full model change is near)?

Considering the price difference with the base car, it’s pretty good deal, because it’s with Brembo shocks.
