Tesla’s toughest rival Polestar 2 has 400 horsepower and will be sold this year

The Polestar 2, which will be the quintessential rival of the Tesla Model 3, will arrive this year with 400 horsepower under the hood.

Polestar 2

We have talked a lot about the Polestar 2, the first fully electric car of the Volvo group and that will serve as a rival against the Tesla Model 3. There has been a lot of talk about its design, its specifications and its design. But it remained to be seen when we would see this long-awaited electric car on the market.

The Polestar 2 will start selling later this year in the United States, and at a pretty good price: $59,900. While we already knew the prices at which the Polestar will presumably hit Europe, we didn’t know exactly when it would hit the markets as such.

It remains to be confirmed, of course. For the rest, the Polestar is a car with about 408 horsepower, 660 Nm of torque, a price much lower than the Tesla Model 3 and with a slightly lower range than its rival.

The Polestar 2 will arrive this year

The Polestar 2 had already confirmed certain prices on European territory. Its base price will be around 39,900 euros, much lower than the Model 3 (59,100 euros). The sacrifice will be made in battery range, going down from 560 to 500 kilometers (WLTP). In addition, there will be a special launch version for 59,900 euros.

Polestar, the sub-brand that was born from Volvo, a Swedish car manufacturer, now under Chinese company, has come to face Tesla with everything it has. Unfortunately the firm has not given much more details, without specific arrival dates.

The fact that this car has the Model 3 as its objective is evident from the first moment, since this is a more accessible model than what we are used to seeing in the electric car market. In fact, it could even be said that it was inspired by the Model 3, since although it has room to carry a family, it has power to spare for car lovers.

It will have an acceleration from 0 to 100 of less than 5 seconds, and will have a “performance” pack option. It will add high-performance brakes, suspension and 20-inch wheels. The interior will be dominated by Android Auto, which will allow us to start it and control aspects such as its air conditioning even before we enter the car.

As for the engines, we are dealing with an electric car with 78 kWh batteries, made up of 27 modules that are located on the floor of the vehicle. Battery range of more than 440 kilometers is achieved and also a lower center of gravity is obtained.

WRONG: Picture on top is not the Polestar 2 but the Polestar Precept (concept)
WRONG: The sacrifice will be made in battery range, going down from 560 to 500 kilometers.

Author does not know what he is talking about and probably confuses things.

The picture has been fixed, but the range is accurate, 560 km for Tesla Model 3 Long Range and 500 km for Polestar 2, both as per WLTP rating.
