Tesla: 2013 Model S exceeds 1.2 million km

Who said a Tesla couldn’t travel such a great distance in its lifetime? Hansjörg Gemmingen, owner of a 2013 Tesla Model S P85, has exceeded 1.2 million kilometers (745,645 miles).

Hansjörg Gemmingen started the adventure with Tesla with an original Tesla Roadster, but changed cars in 2014 by purchasing a 2013 Tesla Model S P85.

For now, Hansjörg Gemmingen’s red car is the Tesla that holds the world record for distance traveled with the same vehicle. By November 2019, Gemmingen’s Model S P85 had reached one million kilometers. The record had been officially validated by a representative of the Guinness Book of Records. At the time, he was congratulated on Twitter by Elon Musk, because he was the first to have traveled such a distance in a Tesla.

Battery change at 470,000 km

The Tesla owner recently posted on Twitter that he has now passed the 1.2 million kilometer mark. Of course, he did not accomplish this feat without difficulty. Since 2014, the Model S P85 required a battery change at 470,000 km. Three different electric motors were also used in the vehicle when it traveled the 1 million kilometers. But Gemmingen does not want to stop there. He hinted that he was now aiming for 1.6 million kilometers or a million miles.

These repairs were all covered by the vehicle warranty resulting in very low maintenance costs for the Tesla owner.

Soon it should be even easier to cover such a distance without needing to change the battery. Indeed, the Tesla batteries will soon exceed a million and a half kilometers. Recently, the American manufacturer announced during Battery Day that it will soon equip its cars with a battery that is 6 times more efficient.
