Adaptive cruise control, or ACC is an addition to the automatic cruise control system found on some modern cars. The device uses a radar or laser to measure the distance and the approach speed of a vehicle ahead of the user, which allows the speed to be adjusted automatically in order to maintain a safe distance to avoid a collision, then to resume the set point speed in memory when there are no more obstacles or vehicles within the programmed distance.
