Nissan Kicks e-Power: electrified urban crossover for Southeast Asia

Nissan, a well known brand in the crossover segment, adapts its ranges to the needs of customers around the world. So, if the brand new Nissan JUKE is dedicated to the European market, its sister urban crossover, the Nissan KICKS, which is marketed in Southeast Asia. With it, the brand continues its electrification strategy in this region. The Nissan KICKS now benefits from e-POWER technology; technology which is already enjoying immense success in Japan.

Nissan has deployed a complete range of urban crossovers worldwide including Qashqai and Juke, to meet the needs of customers in each market. Among this wide range, the Nissan KICKS is an urban crossover, the different versions of which are marketed in Latin America, North America, the Indian subcontinent, China or the Southeast Asia.


And it is precisely in Thailand that the latest version has just been presented. Pursuing its electrification strategy, Nissan is marketing its e-POWER engine for the first time outside of Japan, after the immense success of this technology in the its home country.

The e-POWER system is made up of a 100% electric motor which alone powers the vehicle. But its batteries are not recharged from an outlet or terminal: it is a thermal generator, always operating at optimal speed, which ensures recharging. At the end of the day, the driving pleasure of a 100% electric vehicle and a consumption 30% lower than that of an equivalent hybrid, according to Japanese standards.

Currently, e-POWER technology is already available in Japan. It is offered on the NOTE city car, the best-selling car in the country, and on the Nissan SERENA minivan, Japan’s best-selling compact minivan. More than 70% of the NOTE and almost half of the SERENA sold in Japan are equipped with this technology.

Reserved for the Thai market, the Nissan KICKS e-POWER is manufactured in Thailand. It combines design and technology at an affordable price. Thailand is the first country where Nissan produces its e-POWER technology outside of Japan.

“The launch of the all-new Nissan KICKS e-POWER in Thailand is in line with the brand’s unique electrification and innovation strategy,” said Yutaka Sanada, regional vice president of Nissan Asia and Oceania.

Already marketed in Japan, and now in Thailand, e-POWER technology will also be marketed by Nissan on some of its future European products by 2022.
