Modernized Toyota Hilux unveiled – Pick-up legend extensively upgraded

Toyota has completely unveiled the new Hilux and fans of bulky engines will love the news – there is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel under the hood, which offers just over 200 horsepower. It should be on sale by the end of the year.

Striking design, a powerful new engine, more comfort and exclusive top equipment: The Toyota Hilux has now been fundamentally revised. More than ever, the Toyota Pick-up will in future also target customers who not only value the Hilux for its proven robustness in tough work, but also see it as a stylish leisure companion. This is particularly the case with the new top version “Invincible” with tailor-made styling and equipment features. The vehicle will be on sale in Germany from mid-September. The pre-sale will start in the next few weeks.

Since its introduction in 1968, the Hilux has demonstrated its “indomitability” in the most remote corners of the world: at the North Pole, in the volcanic landscapes of Iceland, in Antarctica and not least when it won the Dakar Rally 2019. In the future it will be even more powerful: In all three body styles (single cab, extra cab and double cab) with all-wheel drive, it now offers a ton of payload and 3.5 tons of trailer load.

The front of the pick-up has been redesigned: the three-dimensional radiator grille and the revised bumper give the Hilux a powerful and self-confident appearance, reinforce its visual presence on the road and underline its robust character. The look can be further enhanced with redesigned LED units for the front and rear, black 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the redesigned instrument cluster and the new, 8-inch infotainment display provide the driver with all the important information; mechanical buttons and controls ensure optimal operation under all driving conditions. The multimedia system has also been improved, which now responds even faster to inputs and allows the smartphone to be integrated via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The long equipment list includes a keyless entry and start system, a navigation system, automatic climate control, parking sensors at the front and rear, and a JBL Premium Sound System with nine speakers, eight-channel amplifier with 800 watts and CLARi-fi technology.

Whether work or leisure: the Hilux is up to any challenge with a variety of other features. You can choose from a sports bar made of synthetic resin with an electrically operated aluminum load compartment cover, a lockable loading flap, a hardtop and a 12-volt socket for the loading area.

A new addition to the powerful bonnet is a powerful 2.8-liter diesel engine with 150 kW / 204 hp and 500 Nm torque, which accelerates the Hilux from zero to 100 km / h in 10.0 seconds – 2.8 seconds faster than the current one and still available 2.4 liter diesel.

The new engine is available in conjunction with a six-speed automatic and is delivered with all-wheel drive as standard. It is available for the two body styles Extra Cab and Double Cab.

The chassis engineers were given the task of combining the legendary off-road properties with more comfort on paved roads. The Hilux remains true to the tried-and-tested ladder frame: it is the guarantee for the exceptional resistance to twisting in the field.

Tailgate

Nevertheless, the Hilux is now more comfortable and manoeuvrable than ever: improvements to the steering system and chassis – including a new set-up for the shock absorbers, optimized leaf springs and new bearings – allow the pick-up legend to glide smoothly over uneven road surfaces.

Android Auto supported infotainment system

Off-road capabilities have also been further improved: an electronic function in the 2WD variants offers the effect of a mechanical limited-slip differential, the reduction in idle speed from 850 to 650 rpm and the more finely tuned accelerator pedal increase off-road control. Added to this are the modified VSC electronic stability program and tire angle monitoring.

As a new top version, Toyota is launching the “Invincible” equipment line for the Extra Cab and Double Cab variants. It combines the versatility and performance of the pick-up with high-quality styling features and extensive equipment.

Outside, the independent design for the radiator grille, bumper, underride protection, fenders, door handles, wheels and loading flap underlines the exclusive character of the Hilux “Invincible”. Inside, the top level offers a specially designed instrument cluster, applications in black metallic look and black chrome, as well as an independent smart entry key. In the double cab versions, additional ambient lighting for the doors in “Clear Blue” and two-tone perforated leather seats create a particularly high-quality ambience.
