Lucid Motors to launch electric SUV based on Air sedan

While it has just unveiled the new Air, the Californian brand has announced the upcoming arrival of an SUV based on the electric sedan.

Lucid Motors has finally gone from theory to practice by lifting the veil on the Lucid Air, its new electric sedan which is available in four versions. It will not be the only one in the catalog since an SUV is also in store.

This concluding announcement, tinged with Steve Jobs’ famous “One more thing” for his keynotes, outlines the next electric SUV from the Californian manufacturer. A trajectory similar to that of its competitor Tesla and inevitable due to the ever growing demand for this type of enhanced vehicle.

1,080 hp for the top model, but reduced battery range in all cases

The all-terrain will take up the stylistic codes of the sedan with a clean design, vertical optics at the front and rear, as well as an aluminum roof. The latter can also receive a profiled roof box specially adapted to the silhouette of the Lucid electric SUV.

Unsurprisingly, it will take over the Air platform and, arguably, the same range construction. At the top of the basket will therefore be a version equipped with two electric motors for a power of 1,080 hp.

An intermediate version of 800 hp could admit the greater battery range, without reaching the 832 km of the sedan because of the obvious aerodynamic constraints on this type of behemoth.

This SUV could see the light of day in 2021 for production the following year.
