How to use Reversing Assistant on BMW X5

The Reversing Assistant supports the driver when reversing, for example when reversing in a narrow dead end road.

Park Assist button BMW X5, fourth generation

When driving forward and not exceeding 36 km/h, the last 50 meters of road are saved. Please make sure that the road that needs to be reversed along is at least 30 cm wider than the vehicle.

Press the Park Assistant button or engage reverse gear to switch on the Park Assistant Menu. Activate the “Reversing Assistant”, that lights up when available in the top right corner.

Just follow the instructions on the Control Display. The system takes over steering when reversing along the saved stretch, you as the driver are responsible for operating acceleration and braking in order to avoid collisions. When you are driving too quick an acoustic signal will sound and you will be prompted in the Control Display.

At the end of the saved stretch of road, a signal sounds, the green lights on the steering wheel start to pulsate before turning red, and a message appears prompting you to take over control of the vehicle.

If you change gear during an active reversing assistant or take over the steering wheel, you deactivate the function.
