How to use Apple Carplay on VW Golf Mk7

Volkswagen offers Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Mirrorlink in the Golf VII under the familiar menu item App-Connect.

Nothing has changed in the operating concept: You operate Carplay as usual, primarily via the touchscreen and also with the help of Siri. Siri is the default choice when entering iMessage and starting phone calls.

As soon as the Carplay navigation is running with Apple Maps, the Discover Pro navigation is canceled.

You will find the recently opened apps on the left in the Carplay dock. In addition to the touchscreen and voice control, some steering wheel buttons also work in the Golf with Carplay. A long press on the voice button on the right-hand side of the steering wheel starts Siri, while a short press starts the VW voice control.

Conclusion: Thanks to the responsive 9.2-inch touchscreen, Carplay in the VW Golf can be operated reliably.
