How to remote start Mazda CX-5 or Mazda3 from your smart phone

Understanding the MyMazda Remote features built into your MyMazda smart phone app will help you get the most out of them and out of the driving experience. Here are some tips to get you started. Remote start system feature is available in Mazda CX-5, CX-30, CX-9, Mazda3 or Mazda6.

Remote control appears on the home screen when you start your app for simple everyday use. The remote start feature is a great convenience when warming up the vehicle in cold weather or pre-cooling in hot weather. Note that your vehicle climate setting will remain how it was when you last turned off the vehicle.

  1. To start the engine, touch and hold “START” button at the center of your screen of smart phone app – keep your finger on the screen until the round meter completes the circle.
  2. A popup message will tell you when the engine has started.
  3. You can stop running the engine the same way by flipping the center of the circle from start to “STOP”. For safety reasons remote start will not work if the key is in the vehicle or if a door is open.
  4. The engine will automatically stop when you open a door or after running for 15 minutes.

Other Mazda App Features

Lock or unlock doors

You can also use your app to lock and unlock your doors – simply touch and hold door lock or door unlock icons on the home screen.

Flash vehicle’s lights

You can use remote control to flash your vehicle lights to help you find it easier in the parking lot.

Vehicle Status

With vehicle status, it’s easy to check up on your Mazda from wherever you happen to be – just touch “STATUS” on your home screen. The display will tell you how much fuel you have in the tank, the total distance traveled on the odometer, the air pressure in each tire and whether the doors are locked – including if the hood is unlatched.

I purchased a new 2020 Mazda CX5 and downloaded the MyMazda App. However, I don’t see the buttons to lock/unlock or the push button on the home screen. Is there anything I am missing?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It depends on your phone and provider. I checked my phone, a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 with Verizon, its not listed as compatible and explains why I didn’t see the buttons. That sucks.

I can start the car with remote app, but when I unlock it engine turns off. How do I open locks without shutting engine off. 2021 Mazda CX-5.

You can’t do it. The engine must be restarted before you can drive the car. Maybe its due to safety reasons, because I have seen this engine restarting requirement for remote start in other cars as well.

More Mazda BS. Acura/Honda stays running but you must push the Start/Stop button in order to drive off.

If you have to push the stop and start button what is the difference? Still shuts off. Too bad Mazda could not design so if the person with keyfob is entering the vehicle, it does not shut off.

Safety reasons. Kids, thieves… Most vehicles you need to hit the start button once you get in.

For safety reasons it will turn off as soon as you open a door. This way no criminal will get inside your car to steal it driving away!

Why wouldn’t I want to keep my engine on after turning it on through the Mazda app once I unlock my car door? This is so bizarre, that defeats in saving time.. the purpose to be able to get in my car and leave while engine is on once my car is warmed up 🙆🏻‍♀️😆

I have a 2019 CX-5 Touring. Do they all come with remote start capability?
