Opening a vehicle’s lift gate can be an awkward experience, especially with an armful of pizzas. The release button and handle are usually too low.
Hyundai’s engineers came up with a much better plan for Veloster. The lift gate handle is located under the rear wiper.
To unlock and open the lift gate, make sure you have the smart key with you and that it is within 28 inches of the lift gate handle, say in your pocket. Press the release button on the underside of the lift gate handle. The hazard warning lights will blink twice, and the lift gate handle will unlock. Once unlocked, pull upward on the handle to fully open the lift gate.

The lift gate can also be unlocked by pressing and holding the lift gate unlock button on the smart key for more than a second.
The release button on the handle must still be pressed, and the lift gate opened manually.
