How to lock center armrest and trunk for valet parking on BMW 7-Series

Your BMW may be equipped with a feature that offers a way to lock the trunk separately from the doors for added security – perfect if you plan on valeting your vehicle.

Trunk lock switch location

First place any items you wish to keep safe in the trunk. Next locate the trunk lock – on the 750li, this is located in the front center armrest. Though, depending on your vehicle, it may be located in the glove box instead.

Slide the switch to lock trunk

Sliding the tailgate lock switch to the left will secure the trunk and disconnect it from the central locking system – meaning it can’t be opened via the key fob, the trunk button in the cabin or the handle on the trunk itself.

Lock center armrest using mechanical key

Next, take out the mechanical key from your key fob. Do this by pressing the button on the back of the key fob and then pulling out the key. Use the mechanical key to lock the center armrest. The trunk now cannot be accessed without first unlocking the center armrest and releasing the trunk lock.

Give key fob to valet attendant without mechanical key

You can then give the key fob to the valet attendant and keep the mechanical key on your person, insuring your trunks contents are secure.

When you get back your car from valet

When your car is returned, to open the trunk, first unlock the center armrest. Next, slide the trunk lock to the right to return it to central locking system control. You can then access the trunk as normal via the key fob, the trunk button or the trunk lid itself. Finally make sure you remember to return the mechanical key to your key fob for safekeeping.
