How to enable or disable auto locks in Toyota Fortuner

Toyota Fortuner is equipped with an auto lock function that automatically locks the doors when the vehicle is in motion. While some drivers prefer to have this function enabled for added security, others may find it inconvenient and wish to disable it. In this article, we will explore how to enable or disable auto locks in a Fortuner, so you can choose the setting that works best for your needs.

Toyota Fortuner second generation.

When the auto lock feature is activated in a Toyota Fortuner, all of the doors will automatically lock when the vehicle’s speed reaches approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or higher. This is designed to provide added security and prevent any unauthorized entry into the vehicle while it’s in motion.

Enabling the auto locks feature in a Toyota Fortuner is a simple process that can be completed in just a few steps. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Start by sitting in the driver’s seat with all of the doors closed.
  2. Vehicles without smart entry & start system: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position, but do not start the engine.
Vehicles with smart entry & start system: Press the ENGINE START STOP button two times without pressing the brake pedal to turn on the ignition.
  3. Within 20 seconds, press and hold the lock button on the driver’s door for approximately 5 seconds and then release.
  4. When the setting operation is complete, all the doors are locked and then unlocked.
  5. Test it by driving the vehicle at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or higher and verifying that all of the doors lock automatically.
  6. To disable the auto locks function, repeat the procedure.
After turning on the ignition, and with the doors closed, press and hold the lock button on the driver’s door for approximately 5 seconds to cycle between activation and deactivation of auto locks feature on Toyota Fortuner.

From a safety perspective, the auto locks feature can provide added security by preventing unauthorized entry into the vehicle while it’s in motion. This can be particularly important when driving in areas with high crime rates or when traveling with valuable items or passengers.

On the other hand, some drivers may find the auto locks feature to be inconvenient or even frustrating, especially if they frequently enter and exit the vehicle or frequently travel at low speeds. In these cases, disabling the feature may be a better option.

Ultimately, the decision to keep the auto locks feature on or off will depend on each driver’s individual preferences and needs. It’s important to weigh the benefits and potential drawbacks before making a decision and to always prioritize safety while driving.
