How to connect Bluetooth on Toyota Sienna

To use a compatible Bluetooth phone with the Toyota hands-free feature, you must first pair the phone with the vehicle using voice commands or by navigating through the pairing pages on the audio system display. This guide shows how it’s done with voice commands.

Note: This method is specifically for third generation of Toyota Sienna code named XL30.

  1. First, turn on the Bluetooth feature on your phone and navigate to its Bluetooth pairing page.
  2. Push the talk switch on the steering wheel of the vehicle, wait for the beep, and say “set up.” The audio system will say: “Set up, please push the talk switch and say ‘security,’ ‘phone set up,’ or ‘Bluetooth audio set up’.”
  3. Push the talk switch, wait for the beep, and say “phone set up.” The audio system will say: “Phone set up, push the talk switch, and say ‘pair phone,’ ‘select phone,’ ‘change name,’ ‘list phone,’ ‘set passkey,’ ‘hands-free power,’ or ‘delete phone’.”
  4. Push the talk switch on the steering wheel, wait for the beep, and say “pair phone.” The audio system will say: “Pair, push the talk switch and say a name for the phone.”
  5. Push the talk switch again, wait for the beep, and say a name for the phone. For example: “Tim’s audio player.” Audio system will repeat “Tim’s audio player.”
  6. Push the talk switch and say “confirm,” otherwise say “go back.”
  7. If you don’t like the device name you chose, push the talk switch, wait for the beep, and say “go back.” Push the talk switch again, wait for the beep, and say the preferred name for the phone. When the system asks you to confirm the name, push the talk switch, wait for the beep, and say “confirm.”
  8. The audio system will say: “To use the internal Bluetooth audio player feature of the phone, say “internal audio,” otherwise say “phone only.”) If your phone contains a streaming Bluetooth audio feature you can choose to pair that as well at this time. For this demonstration, we’ll only pair the phone.
  9. Push the talk switch, wait for the beep, and say “phone only.” When the system asks you to confirm, push the talk switch, wait for the beep, and say “confirm.”
  10. The system will provide a passkey and will then repeat the wording ‘searching’ until you input the passkey into your phone and the audio system finds your device.
  11. The audio system will tell you when the phone is paired. If you’re finished pairing phones, cancel out of the set up process by pushing the talk switch and saying “cancel“.
  12. Once paired, the Bluetooth icon and a signal strength indicator for your phone will appear on the screen. You can now place and receive phones calls hands-free by pushing the off hook button on the steering wheel. The voice response will provide a list of voice commands you can use.
  13. Main menu available commands are dial by name, dial by number, redial, call back, phone book, and set up. Always available commands are repeat, go back, cancel, and help.
