The Ford Ranger is Europe’s most popular pick-up. One of the reasons for the success of this series is its diversity: The Ranger has so far been available in five configurations: from the Ranger XL to the Ranger Wildtrak to the Ranger Raptor. Now Ford is expanding the range of Ranger variants. The Ranger Thunder can be ordered now – an exclusive equipment variant based on the Ranger Wildtrak. The limited “Thunder” model is expected to be delivered in August. Selling price: 45,910 euros (net).

The new Ford Ranger Thunder is powered by a bi-turbo EcoBlue diesel engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters. The unit develops an output of 156 kW (213 hp) and brings a beefy torque of 500 Nm via the standard 10-speed automatic transmission, which has already proven itself in other Ranger models and in the US F-150 on the wheels. Like all Ranger versions offered in Europe, the Ranger Thunder is driven by the rear wheels. If required, the standard all-wheel drive with electronic gear selection can be activated.

Confident appearance and distinctive design

Special design and equipment details underline the exclusivity of the new Ford Ranger Thunder and emphasize its robust character.

As standard, the Ranger Thunder is painted in noble royal gray, the only possible color for this model, and stands on black 18-inch alloy wheels. The color of the parts of the radiator grille, the rear bumper, the underride protection, the border of the fog lights, the sports frame of the loading platform and the door handles are all in ebony black. Strong red accents in the area of the radiator grille and the sports frame as well as three-dimensional “Thunder” badges on the doors and tailgate ensure a confident appearance. The “Ranger” logo is in matt black.

LED headlights with darkened edges are also standard on the new Ford Ranger Thunder. In addition, the stylish pick-up has a tub for the loading platform and a powder-coated roller blind to cover the loading area (Black Mountain Top) – both features are very popular with Ranger customers and are often ordered as accessories. For the first time, a practical new loading area divider is also available.

The comfortable interior of the standard double cabin offers seats made of ebony-colored leather with embroidered “Thunder” logos, the red coloring of which perfectly matches the seams on the steering wheel, seats and instrument panel. The black floor mats of the vehicle contrast with its red illuminated door sills.

Ranger is “International Pick-up of 2020”

In November 2019, an international jury of experts had named the Ford Ranger series the “International Pick-up of the Year 2020” – the Ford Ranger won this prestigious title for the second time after 2013. This time it was primarily its combination of robustness, clever drive technology, comfort and large loading area that convinced the panel of experts.

Ford Ranger is the number one pick-up in Europe and Germany

Ford sold 9,697 rangers in Germany last year, 25 percent more than in 2018 and continues to be number 1 in the registration statistics.

With 52,500 units sold, the Ranger 2019 had its best-selling year in Europe to date. The number relates to the following 20 European markets in which Ford has its own sales organizations: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Romania , Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Hungary.

“Its impressive appearance gives the new Ford Ranger Thunder a distinctive presence on the road,” says Hans Schep, General Manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe. “This powerful, comfortable and stylish variant of Europe’s best-selling pick-up is as robust as it is versatile and attractive.”
