DR Evo Electric, the low-cost SUV with 186 miles range

From a small Italian automaker you most probably wouldn’t have heard of, an SUV with battery of 300 km or 186 miles, 116 hp electric motor, fast recharge and a competitive price.

There may come a time when the value for money will become fundamental and the low end could become important again. For this, the new offering of the DR, an automotive company founded in 2006 in Italy, that imports car components (assembling them under license) produced by the Chinese companies, Chery Automobile and JAC Motors, and markets them, re-branded with the DR logo, deserves attention.

The new Evo Electric is in fact the JAC iEV40: 414 cm long compact SUV, with a sober and clean style, with electric propulsion and over 300 km of battery range. Inside – quite spacious – we find the leather steering wheel, the eco-leather seats and the 8” touch screen in the console, equipped with the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functions to connect smartphones. The trunk has a variable capacity from 250 to 450 liters.

The Evo DR adopts a 116 HP electric motor and 270 Nm of torque and is a front wheel drive. To power it, 40 kWh lithium-ion batteries, which take 8 hours to recharge completely from an alternating current electrical system. By connecting them to a direct current fast charging network, it takes 40 minutes to go from 15% to 80% charge. The automaker claims 130 km / h of maximum speed and 4.5 seconds acceleration from 0 to 50 km / h. The only available set-up includes 16-inch alloy wheels, eco-leather interior, LED headlights, mirror screen system, park assist with eight parking sensors, four cameras with 360° vision, roadway maintenance control system, automatic climate control and heated front seats.

There is no doubt that the positive of the Evo Electric DR is represented by the price. It starts from 29,900 euros, but there are discounted dealers and an additional advantage for those who order the car before April 30, 2020 (and home delivery is made by this date). Thus adding up the state eco-bonus, it can cost 19,900 euros.
