Chinese car market jumps by 11 percent in June 2020 amid global slump

The largest car market in the world is recovering after the Corona slump. Auto sales in China rose slightly again in June, sales statistics show.

The Chinese car market continues to recover from the coronavirus slump. Sales rose in June compared to the same month of the previous year based on preliminary data by around 11 percent to 2.28 million vehicles, as the manufacturer’s association CAAM (China Association of Automobile Manufacturers) announced on Thursday in Beijing. Compared to the previous month, the increase was 4 percent.

After the collapse in sales at the beginning of the year, when the corona shutdown paralyzed the Chinese economy, overall sales for the months of January to June were down 17 percent to 10.2 million vehicles.

The Chinese car market, which was so important to auto manufacturers in the past and has been growing rapidly, has been weakening for some time. In 2019, it had shrunk for the second year in a row. The customs dispute between the USA and China and the weaker economic growth in the People’s Republic left their mark.

The CAAM association measures the sales of the manufacturers to the dealers. There is also the PCA (China Passenger Car Association), which counts the sale of cars, SUVs, minivans and small multi-purpose vehicles to customers.
