BMW wants a powerful electric M5 exceeding 1000 horsepower

BMW is reportedly working on an all-electric version of its M5. The sports sedan would be equipped with a 1006 horsepower motor to provide great pleasure to its driver. However, you will have to be patient.

BMW loves speed. The German manufacturer is present in many disciplines of motorsport, including Formula E , the electric equivalent of Formula 1.

Not before 2024?

Until last month, BMW fans were waiting for the Vision M Next, an electric supercar replacing the i8, whose success had been mixed. Taking more aggressive lines, it had to be fitted with a 600 horsepower engine mounted on an ultra-light chassis. It will ultimately be nothing, the automaker having abandoned the project. But according to information from the English Car Magazine, BMW has other plans.

Indeed, it would be an electric M5 triple motor which is currently in preparation. Manufactured on the basis of the current M5, it will initially carry a 135 kWh battery at 400 volts. It should later adopt an 800-volt battery similar to that of the Porsche Taycan. The expected battery range is around 700 kilometers (435 miles) in WLTP standard.

The documents obtained by the magazine indicate the presence of 2 motors of 250 kW at the rear and one at the front, thus offering 1006 horses of total power. This should allow it to reach 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. However, it will be necessary to wait until 2024 to see this all-electric M5 arrive. If the price has not been given, the current basic model costs slightly less than 130,000 euros, so we will have to expect a bill probably more than 150,000 euros This would place it directly in front of the Porsche Taycan Turbo, the success of which exceeds production capacities.
