Audi debuts its new A3 Sportback online due to the cancellation of Geneva Motor Show by the authorities over Coronavirus fears.
The new generation, the fourth generation, features compact body and a sporty design. The front is fitted with a wide single-frame grille with a large air intake. The shoulder line extends smoothly from the headlight to the rear light.
The body panel below the shoulder line introduces a new Audi design element, with a concave shape that makes the wheel arch look more prominent.
Headlights
Digital daytime running matrix LED headlights consists of a 3×5 array of LEDs. By creating a unique light signature, the new A3 Sportback can be distinctly identified on the road.
Body Dimensions
The new model has a spacious interior with a compact body size. The new body measures 4340 mm in length, 1820 mm in width, 1430 mm in height, and 2640 mm in wheelbase. Compared to the conventional model, the overall length and width have each been increased by about 30 mm. The overall height and wheelbase have not changed.
Recycled Fabric
The new interior has a new gear lever, aluminum or carbon inlay, a newly designed door handle, a black tone instrument panel, etc. Audi’s first contrast-stitched fabric is made from recycled PET bottles.
Cargo Volume
The luggage space has a capacity of 380 liters (13.4 cu-ft). If the rear seat is folded, it will expand to a maximum of 1200 liters (42.4 cu-ft). The trunk floor can be set at different heights. The optional electric tailgate can be automatically opened and closed by putting your foot under the bumper.
Instrument Cluster
The A3 Sportback comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster screen as standard. This instrument panel can be operated via a multi-function steering wheel. The optional “Audi Virtual Cockpit” has added features such as an enlarged display of the navigation map. The display size of “Virtual Cockpit Plus” is 12.3 inches. You can switch between three different views, including sporty graphics. A head-up display that projects important information in color on the windshield is optional.
Infotainment System
The new model comes standard with a 10.1-inch touch display. This display is integrated at the center of the dashboard, supports handwritten character input and provides audible feedback. It can also be operated with voice control.
The Multi Media Interface (MMI) has been enhanced with a new third generation modular infotainment platform. Computing capacity is 10 times that of conventional models. In addition to all connectivity-related functions, including telephone functions and the “Audi connect” service that supports the LTE-Advanced standard, it also incorporates a Wi-Fi hotspot function.
Individual settings can be stored in up to six user profiles. This includes air conditioning controls, seat positions, frequently used navigation destinations and media. Route guidance has become even easier and more convenient. For example, navigation displays traffic forecasts, high-resolution satellite images from Google Earth, and detailed 3D models of many major European cities.
Audi connect adds photos, business hours, user reviews, etc. to POI (Point of Interest) information. The Audi connect service also includes a “Car-to-X” service. The new model can be connected to a smartphone via the “myAudi” app, Apple’s “CarPlay”, Google’s “Android Auto”, and the Audi phone box. The Audi phone box also supports wireless charging. Amazon’s Alexa will also be available.
Driver Assistance
The new model is equipped with the latest advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), “Audi Pre-Sense Front” and “Active Lane Assist”. These features will help prevent accidents on the road and provide a high level of safety. In addition, lane change, exit warning, cross traffic, park assist system, etc. can be selected as options.
Adaptive Cruise Assist provides front-rear and lateral assistance. This system keeps the vehicle in the driving lane by maintaining the speed and distance between the vehicle ahead with gentle corrective automatic steering. This feature improves the comfort level especially during long-distance driving.
