Hey guys, I don’t really know much about cars, not yet of course, but I had a question! So I have a Lexus ES 350 2007 with little under 49k miles on it and I went to the mechanic to get a shaking issue fixed. Turns out that he replaced a coil and after doing so we drove the car and it marked another coil. My dad said that it would be fine to just change that other one and leave it like that if it runs fine. But do you guys think I should replace the other 5? Also if I have two new coils and 4 old ones, could the old ones somehow damage the other two? I need an opinion since I’ll be spending an addition 600 if I want all of them replaced . Thanks

It's fine. You only need to replace the coil that has failed. Save your cash.

Since you have a new coil in there already save your money and switch the new one with the bad one.

If the misfire follows the coil THEN replace it, if not then you have a wiring issue that needs diagnosis.

You can get away with just replacing a single coil, it shouldn’t hurt the other ones. But from my experience if one starts failing usually more will start to go after it. If you can swing it financially I would recommend replacing all coils to save you from further misfires and more mechanic visits.

Also I checked eBay and found a new aftermarket set of coils for your es350 for around $60.
