With my brand new G06 it was shown in the Connected Drive app that the new update from 11 / 2019.33 to 11 / 2019.70 is available (approx. 230 MB), I downloaded it in the app and uploaded it to the X6. Since the upload took a long time and I wanted to get out of the vehicle, I continued it 1 day later without an error message. 1 further day later I installed it and it showed me 100%, but then I got the error message "Software upgrade failed"> "Vehicle not ready. Call roadside assistance."

The problem: the engine no longer starts, according to BMW roadside assistance the problem cannot be solved by a service vehicle, ie the X6 has to be towed to the BMW branch.

Instead of a simple reset button or on-site service, you have to have the vehicle towed, right?

The highlight: all breakdown services are currently busy, the problem was 12 p.m. and it can only be towed tomorrow at 8 a.m.

A thing that would be done quickly with a reset button.

A Windows PC runs more reliably when updating

At my urging to send a service technician, the BMW hotline employee said that the update problem is known and can only be remedied on site at the BMW branch...

Uh, car broke because of (gimmicks on a cell phone?) Update, software, etc. Always thought that the parts only had mechanical defects. Well, 99% of my cars are in a "dark garage". So far, "NEVER" had electrical problems, let alone software problems. Always according to the motto "as long as one thing works just leave it alone" !! Updates are avoided as often as possible. No matter whether telephone, PC, television or the like. Have only had good experiences with this procedure.

The X6 is back from the branch office, everything is running again now.

I called the BMW breakdown service hotline in Munich and said that they should not send me a towing service, but the BMW service vehicle, so that a software reset can be carried out. Was rejected and insisted on towing. Towing service No. 1 came and had to give up because the clamp did not reach the rear wheels, because the X6 was too deep in the garage and the winch would have hit the garage door at the top. I called the BMW breakdown service hotline in Munich again, insisted on another towing service, this time the ADAC came and it was found that the X6 can only be pulled out with 4 floor rollers, but the (new) paving of the driveway would be destroyed , therefore not possible. Fortunately, the ADAC Servicemann knew the BMW service mobile driver at the nearest BMW branch (35 km away), who came, reset the software and the engine started again. It still had to be towed (I was able to drive it onto the loading area myself) because the BMW serviceman prohibited me from continuing because the software was only installed in an emergency. After 5 hours in the BMW dealership, the X6 was ready for use again with the software 03.2020 / 31.

Conclusion: I can tell you the next software update where I will do it: directly in the courtyard of the BMW dealership

My 2020 330 was towed to the dealer for the same error message. I suggest not doing the update

Oh man, that doesn't sound good.

If you let the customer do something like this, then of course something like that must not happen and should be able to be reset quickly in such a special case.

Do not let them bother you. I hope they can fix it quickly and you will enjoy driving again.

2020 X6 xDrive 40i.  Me too.  Had to be dragged out of my garage.  Roadside assistance was fantastic.  NEVER doing an update again.
