So here's the problem and quick history:

PROBLEM DISCOVERED: Driving in city traffic and pedal went spongy/lost all stopping power/fluid pooling at tire; noticed some grinding noises in the prior weeks
ORIGINAL PROBLEM: Passenger rear drum brake has worn shoe down to nothing and blown out the wheel cylinder
REPAIRS PERFORMED: New drum, shoes, springs, adjusters and cylinder; bled system

NEW PROBLEM: Light grinding/scraping noise from passenger rear drum that varies with speed; regular bump/wobble that varies with speed; emergency brake barely holds

This isn't the first time we've had this problem with the passenger rear drum; this is basically what happened last time we had the brakes blow out on that same wheel (passenger rear). Something lets the brake shoes push out way too far on the passenger side without pushing the driver side out that far (passenger shoes worn down to metal, drivers side shoes had ~1.5mm of shoe left. Not sure if the uneven wear is indicative of what's causing the problem. Brakes were done less than 20k miles ago and the passenger rear drum is completely shot (again), but I don't know what might be causing the problem or how to fix.

FWIW this is my girlfriend's car and this is the second time I've done this because I'm not a mechanic, I've never pretended to be a mechanic, and I don't like cars; but she refuses to take it in to an actual trained mechanic who has the right tools and experience. So what should I look for to try and resolve this myself if possible; and failing that, if I do have to take it to a mechanic am I in the $200-400 range or $1,000+ for something like this?
