I have a 03 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8t. Car cranks a little but wont start, was told the alternator was bad and not giving enough power to the battery. I've jumped it a couple times and drove it for 30+ mins and it doesn’t die. Is it okay jumping it to get around for now until the new alternator comes?

The alternator has NOTHING To do with the engine starting..

The alternator recharges the battery and supplies current to keep the electrical systems operating..

If it starts with a jump and you can drive it, it’s most likely the battery or the connectors. Check connectors for corrosion and load test the battery. All the battery does is start the car, the alternator runs everything else and charges the battery. So if it keeps on running it’s most likely a bad battery. Auto parts stores will likely test it for free.

Battery is fine its been tested, if its not that or the alternator could it be ignition switch/starter?

The starter could be an issue. Like I said I would check/clean power and ground connections as well. The starter could very well be getting weak, a parts store can usually check the battery and alternator for you. The ignition switch would be pretty low on my list of concerns.

Do you have any voltage readings? You want it to be above 13V when running, and at least 12V with the engine off. How long are you letting the car jump for? FYI, sometimes it's good to get the battery checked multiple times using multiple methods. Certain testers will pass failed batteries and some will fail brand new batteries. I've had multiple occurrences where a driver complained about dying batteries but I could not get them to fail on our tester.

Turns out I need a new voltage regulator. Solved!
