So I have a 2001 Chevy S10 pickup 4x4, and I've been having issues with it. Whenever I go above around 3k rpms at around 30mph or faster and then let off the gas, there's a loud whining noise that won't stop until I come to a stop. When I finally stop, there is a clunk noise. Then the truck drives fine until I go above 3k rpms at around 30mph again. I don't think it's an issue with the 4wd but I'm fairly new to 4x4s. Any advice would be appreciated.

First step is determine source of noise and how to duplicate. Try 2wd vs 4wd. Try in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears and see if its related to a specific gear range. Does it happen in 4hi or 4lo or both? Are the whine and clunk 1 concern, or 2 separate concerns?

Without a hoist its going to be very difficult to diagnose, and through the internet it will be almost impossible to diagnose. You need someone who knows what the sound is to hear it, a description of the sounds on this portal are unlikely to help.

I could tell you some parts to throw at it, but if you are just guessing, its usually cheaper to pay a dealership 1 hour of diagnosis time to properly diagnose. Sorry this is all the info i can give you.

Have he same exact whining sounds ending with a clunk noise but you can also feel the clunk will say dealership replaced transfer case motor and looked at my diff and over all everything else and it still makes the noise and my 2001 s10 only has 52000 miles I’m taking back on Monday for another diag I will let you know if they give me any good news besides that same whining after 30 mph and the clunk just like your truck it has no other issues drives great
