I do all my oil changes and have noticed over the past several oil changes that there is a metallic gold/silver glitter in the oil and gold metal flakes at the bottom of my oil drain pan. This has been the case with the past 4 oil changes, accounting for 20k miles. The current engine has about 65k miles on it.
I have done an oil analysis with Blackstone Labs and the results came back okay, but they cautioned that their analysis doesn't account for large metallic particles visible to the naked eye.
There is a long history with this car and the 3.3L V6. The engine has been replaced by Hyundai twice under the 10 year/100k warranty due to manufacturing defects. The first engine blew up at 34k miles due to a timing chain tensioner defect and the second engine developed a severe engine knock at 60k miles. The current engine has about 65k miles on it and has always seen regular oil changes every 5000 miles.
I'm trying to get an idea of how serious this is and how much time I might have. The car is starting to fall apart in other ways and I hesitate dumping more money into it if the engine isn't long for this world.
