Posting this here since apparently I got banned from the truck subreddit even though I included my budget and use in the title. Id rather get the blessing of a fellow gear head anyway.

So maybe its a social thing but out here 10k or so doesn't get you much for a truck at all if you want 4x4. There are a few good deals around but they go pretty quick , especially any gm truck.

Keep in mid I'm talking 20-12 or so year old trucks.

Now here's what ive found.

A really clean 1999 F250 with the V10 supercab 4x4 with 116k. Asking 7k.

2000 GMC Sierra  1500 5.3 z71 off road package, leather interior , etc. 120k. Only asking 5k.....

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 hemi 4x4 , 106k , rebuilt title but I ran the carfax and it honestly its fine. It had a rebuilt title issued several years ago. If its still on the road its probably fine if it runs good. Asking 8k but id buy it for 6-6.5k and I know my dodges so I know how to put on a poker face for their common problems

Everything else is over priced junk out here or rwd. 200k -250k miles , 10k asking price at least if its 4x4.

I saw a 2007 ram with a hemi , lift and 4x4 and the dude wanted 14k with 160k miles on it .........

Anyway I've already looked at that ford and really really liked it and I've test driven a few but haven't looked at that dodge yet or the GMC. Im looking for a good daily for a few years until my insurance comes down as I turn 25 then ill buy a newer truck and keep the other as a weekend warrior.

I just don't know what the best buy is ? I know that ford V10 will last the longest if taken care of , the GMC will go to 300k before it probably has any major issues but idk about the dodge. Not as familiar with the 3rd gens.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't pick any of those, but if I HAD to pick one, it would be the GMC. I have had that truck (Silverado, same year, same truck, just different badge) for over 10 years and it's a good truck. The engine is solid. The tranny is good to probably 200k or so if it hasn't been towed with heavily. Make sure it's not rusted out. I'd try to get it for $4k if it's not a rust bucket. There's tons of used parts out there for this truck, engine, tranny, etc.

The Ford V10 is a bad engine. They have issues from the camshafts being too long so they flex and sometimes break, they have other issues too. I would not buy one.

The Dodge from that era has tertible front suspension and notorious electrical problems. It can be a reliable truck but I would expect to spend some money on it.

The GMC will likely have the worst visible rust issues but the engine and electrical will probably be the most trouble-free.

If you don't need to tow or carry a lot of weight, the Nissans are an extremely underrated, inexpensive and reliable option.

I noticed the only Ford option was a 3/4 ton F250. That's a different animal to daily Drive that 1/2 ton. If you don't need something as heavy duty as a 3/4 ton truck I would not buy the Ford. Maintenance on it and parts are much more expensive on a 3/4 ton compared to 1/2 ton. If that doesn't matter to you I would buy the Ford I like super duties. I have one and I'm impressed with it the longer I own it. The Chevy wouldn't be a bad choice if you're looking just for the half ton. The LS 5-3 in that truck is a solid power plant. And I would stay away from any Dodge, well because it's a Dodge and it's a piece of sh*t.

Well my dodge was fine until it got trashed by a piece of shit backstabber but to each their own.

Dodge makes my favorite light duty truck but I’m in love with the F250s. The styling, the power, the ride, everything.

I never liked F150s, the new ones with the 5.0 and fx4 trim are nice but I’d still prefer a F250 over it.

The v10 hauls ass for a old 3/4 ton. Can’t imagine what a good tune , better throttle body and exhaust system will do to it.

It feels like you’re driving a sports car but a truck at the same time. It’s a monster, the feeling is kinda hard to explain.

I’ve ridden in Chevys but haven’t even driven one yet. They’re good trucks though, I know that.
