I’m about drive across the country to handle some family affairs in another state, but CEL light came on. I checked the code and it was P0404 which is problems with the EGR valve. It took it out to check for carbon build up and there wasn’t any, so I put it back and reset the CEL light hoping it’d go away. It came back after about a day. I’m wondering if I should address this before I hit the road or if it’s something that can wait till after.

It's likely a bad EGR. I'd throw one on right quick if you can. In a pinch, you can drive it that way. It might idle rough and get worse mpg. But it'll survive.
