So about three weeks ago, I was headed to the gym and I used my spare key to start the car. The car began to stall which I thought was weird because it wouldn’t stall before even when I used the spare. So I grabbed the original key and the car started but when it idled, the car would shake and go below 1 RPM. So after cleaning the battery of its corrosion, changing the spark plugs, and getting a oil change, the car would still go below 1 RPM while idling.

Any ideas what the problem can be?

When you say the car goes below 1 rpm at idle it is confusing. Surely you mean 1000 rpm but that would be normal. Most vehicles idle in the 600-750 range.

Is the Check engine light on? Did you just recently do any work before the issues started happening?

I didn’t do any work on it prior.

& the only time the check engine light was on was when I was reversing and the light for the engine and battery came on then all of a sudden the engine stopped shaking.

I have a 2005 corolla and mine sometimes idles low too, around 500-600rpm and gets those shakes like you’re describing. It’s usually worse with the air con on (more load) but never stalls out, just feels like it’s on the brink. I think it’s just a corolla thing.
