I have a Vauxhall Astra 2010 J 1.7 CDTI which has a very annoying and potentially dangerous intermittent problem with NO error codes. It has always had a problem with idle where the RPM needle bounces around a little but this seems to be common for these cars, however it then stated to lose power on acceleration (normally cold engine), stopping the car and revving the engine will sometimes clear it and other times i have to physically turn the engine off and restart, sometimes more than once. Sometimes the loss of power is so bad if im half way up a small hill it wall stall and this morning it stalled in idle due to this. If i try revving there is just an immense smell of diesel like its flooded. Currently we have had a new fuel filter, new MAF sensor, new air filter, car had dpf cleaned re-gen and a new sensor.

ANYONE any ideas please

To properly diagnose such a problem, ideally, you have to plug in a scanner to the OBDII port and then test the vehicle with live data. My wild guess would be: EGR valve might be giving up, or dying fuel pump - sometimes corrosion on battery terminals, or poor ground connection can cause such issues.
