I have A VW Golf Sportwagen that has an issue of the back -up camera sometimes in winter refuses to shut/close.  On that model the camera and trunk handle are combined in one assembly.  It is not dirty or frozen or jammed.  It's been cleaned and lubed.  The dealer has never heard of it happening. My guess is maybe the wires become stiff in very low temps- like 25 F and below, and somehow don't flex correctly?
Its fine once temps warm up....Any ideas?

What do you mean, the camera display remains on screen even when the gear is not in reverse? If that is the case, it has nothing to do with camera itself. Its either due to a bug in the infotainment system, or a problem with the mechanism that activates the camera in reverse gear.

If I misunderstood your question, please clarify.

Its like I said- the latch/camera remains open, if you are familiar with VW mk 7 golf cameras.
There is no image when in drive.  Its just does not close, therefore the trunk access is disabled.
